Federal Camp 2021

The Gommertal (VS) is the host for the next federal camp of the Swiss Scout Movement.

From 24 July to 7 August 2021 the next federal camp of the Swiss Scout Movement will take place. After more than a year of intensive preparation and a structured selection throughout Switzerland, the camp's organizing committee decided on the location of the event. The Valais communities of Goms and Obergoms in the Gomer valley were selected.

Around twenty applications from all over Switzerland

Since the beginning of 2018, all cantons have been invited to submit applications in which they present an easily accessible camp site covering more than 120 hectares. Around 20 regions from all over Switzerland submitted applications. The applications were then examined and evaluated by the camp management in a structured selection procedure. Since January, the final three candidacies have been thoroughly evaluated and visited. At the end of this long selection campaign, the Obergoms region in Valais was chosen as the host. The Federal Camp 2021 will take place from 24 July to 7 August 2021.

A camp of national importance

Meetings of this magnitude take place every 14 years on average in the Scout Movement Switzerland. With the aim of bringing people together, the Federal Camp is intended to provide members of the Scout Movement Switzerland with a moment of multilingual and intercultural exchange. The last federal camp took place in the Linth Valley in 2008. It brought together 22,500 scouts from all over Switzerland. A similar number of Scouts are expected in 2021.

Valais: a strategic choice

Since the beginning of planning, the Organizing Committee of the 2021 Federal Camp had had the vision of a camp that would bring together the members of the Swiss Scout Movement in a contiguous camp site. The aim of the Federal Camp 2021 Association is to show the unity of the Scout Movement Switzerland. Consequently, the choice has now been made for the site that best enables the implementation of this strategic vision of the next federal camp. This camp format is typical for international camps, but in recent history it has been a premiere for the Scout Movement Switzerland. The Gomer valley, with its landscapes and the infrastructure at its disposal, is the ideal place to organise this federal camp.

Very good cooperation

Even if the other dossiers submitted are not disclosed, the camp management thanks the regions for their cooperation and the enthusiasm with which the applications were received. All applications convey an impressive and inviting picture of Switzerland and show that all regions of the country are open to youth work.
