Thinking Day 2020 en

22 February 2020 in the world

The Thinking Day on February 22nd is a commemoration day of the Scout Movement, commemorating the worldwide community of the Scouts and the joint birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout Movement, and his wife Olave, an influential leader of the Girl Scout Movement. Originally an event of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and its member associations, Thinking Day is also celebrated today by some member organisations of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM); other WOSM members celebrate Founder's Day on the same day with a similar background but without any reference to Olave Baden-Powell.

On this day many groups collect for charitable purposes or tasks of the Scout Movement. In some scout associations, people wear their scout gear on this day in public in order to make a public commitment to the scout movement. On February 22nd of each year, Thinking Day on the Air and Thinking Day on the Internet are also held, events similar to JOTA and JOTI, organized by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. In Canada this event is called GOTA (Guides on the Air).
